Not just horsing around!

At Silvey Fleet we believe in sharing our resources to the benefit of the wider community – and our biggest and most valuable resource is our people!

Last year we broke out our decorating clothes to redecorate the Bristol Quaker’s Friends Meeting House in Bristol, as well as helping with gardening and maintenance at the residential Craig Y Parc School in Cardiff, which cares for children with cerebral palsy.

This year, after sending our annual survey to find out which charities mean the most to our staff, the overwhelming response was that people wanted to muck in at an animal charity!

With the help of employee volunteering we arranged a day to volunteer with the Horse World team. Horse World is a local charity that cares for horses, ponies and donkeys that may have been abandoned or mistreated, as well as supporting around 200 horses that have been rehomed throughout the South West.

Our 19 strong team sealed and painted, weeded and trimmed – giving the donkey barn and arena area a good spruce up! The work in the donkey barn prepared the space for a new vet box that will be used to treat and monitor injured and sick horses, ponies and donkeys.

We all loved getting messy and doing our bit to give back to a worthy cause, so it was brilliant to receive this feedback from the Horse World team:

“We think the Silvey Fleet  team has done a fantastic job and are so pleased they chose to support Horse World for their corporate volunteering day – thank you, we’ve loved having you here!” 

Our Marketing Manager, Lucy Thomson said of the day:

“Everyone really enjoyed volunteering at Horse World. It’s a brilliant feeling to be able to give back to the community and the 19 of us managed to get a lot done in one day! We’re happy to have made a difference and helped the people and animals at Horse World.” 

Alongside supporting animal charities, our team identified they’d like to support charities that work with vulnerable people too. So we’ll be volunteering again at another event later in September, as well as hosting a McMillan coffee morning soon – and not just so we can judge the bake off!
